Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad McNabb?

I fancy myself a blogger…

It is with a heavy heart that my first ever blog, in any capacity, must revolve around Donnovan McNabb. I suppose I should kick this thing off with something more specific to the Giants, but since “McNabb to the Skins” is flooding the NFL airwaves like a stopped-up toilet….it’s worth venting on for a bit.

What really triggered me was hearing a Sirius NFL Radio broadcaster yesterday ask “What are the Giants and Cowboys thinking about this? Ya think they’re worried?”.

Worried? Allow me to vent my raging frustration with 3 reasons why I’m not worried about this trade:

  1. 1. You can only be dangerous if you make it on the field – Four. Just Four. That is the number of full seasons McNabb has started over the course of his 11 year career. A golden rule of Fantasy Football is that if you end up drafting McNabb; let him rack up his stats in the first 4 weeks and then….TRADE HIM. The guy goes down every year like clockwork and with him approaching 34 years old in November and now playing for a team with an arguably WORSE offensive line (allowing the 5th most sacks in the league last year), I can’t imagine this pattern will change. In fact I’d expect to see Campbell by week 8.
  2. 2. A different world – We all know Shanahan loves his QBs, but he is no Reid when it comes to being pass happy in playcalling. I doubt that McNabb will get the same opportunities in D.C. and when he does….well, Santana Moss is no DeSean Jackson. Unless they land an immediate impact WR in the draft, I don’t see McNabb putting up the same damaging numbers behind a worse O-line and with Cooley as his only reliable target coming off an injury.
  3. 3. Something smells a tad funky with this deal – Maybe it’s just the tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theory subconscious speaking, but I think there’s something strange about a team trading its starting QB for the last 11 years to a division rival. It’s rare that even a scrub player with playbook knowledge is dealt within a division, much less a star QB. Maybe Philly is just eager to dump him before he declines and to get the promising Kolb out on the field ASAP? More likely, McNabb is 33 going on 34 and coming off yet another less than 16 game season…I think Philly knows they are shedding a broken QB.

The bottom line: If the Eagles aren’t worried about McNabb staying in the division, why should the Giants be worried?

So, who’s afraid of the big bad McNabb?

Not Me

My Question: What kind of impact do you think McNabb will have on the Redskins offense?

  1. This deal has reminded me of the Bledsoe deal to Buffalo. That was a deal that should have paid dividends to the Bills and one that should have been regretted by the Pats. But the Bills didnt know how to put it together. In this case, I hope that the Eagles respected him so much that since they were dumping his ass, they owed him the opportunity to have some say in where he was dealt. Let's face it, Oakland and Buffalo weren't on his list.
